Terms and Conditions

The Start of Life – Placenta Encapsulation & Postpartum Services

These Terms & Conditions outline the responsibilities, expectations, and agreements between The Start of Life (“Service Provider”) and the client (“Client”). By booking services, the Client acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agreed to the following:

1. Service Overview

The Start of Life provides placenta encapsulation and related postpartum wellness items. These services are non-medical and are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any condition. All services are provided as holistic support only.

2. Payment & Booking

  • A deposit (non-refundable) is required to reserve the Client’s estimated due date.
  • Full payment is due at the time of placenta pickup unless otherwise agreed in writing.
  • If payment is not received within 5 days of pickup and no mutual extension has been agreed upon, the placenta will be disposed of per hazardous waste protocols.

3. Placenta Transportation & Storage

The Client is responsible for:

  • Ensuring the placenta is properly stored on ice or refrigerated within 2 hours of birth.
  • Informing their birth team of the intent to keep the placenta.
  • Notifying the Service Provider as soon as possible after birth for timely pickup.

Improper storage may result in refusal of service for safety reasons. The deposit remains non-refundable.

4. Safety & Preparation Standards

The Start of Life maintains strict sanitation and safety practices, including:

  • Use of PPE (gloves, masks, sanitizing protocols)
  • Dedicated equipment for each client
  • Maintaining a clean and sanitized workspace
  • Following high-temperature dehydration methods unless the Client selects a raw method

The Client acknowledges that improper handling before pickup may increase risks and may result in service refusal.

5. Processing Timeline

Encapsulation typically requires 36–48 hours and will be completed within 72 hours of starting the process. Delays may occur due to emergencies or unforeseen circumstances, in which case communication will be prioritized.

6. Add-On Services

All add-on products (tinctures, salves, chocolates, keepsakes, etc.) must accompany a placenta encapsulation service or Placenta  unless otherwise stated.

7. Disclaimer & Assumption of Risk

  • Placenta products are not FDA-evaluated, not medical treatments, and should not replace medical care.
  • The Client assumes full responsibility for their decision to ingest or use placenta products.
  • The Client understands the potential risks associated with raw or undercooked products (e.g., raw method, smoothie cubes).
  • Individuals with compromised immune systems may be at higher risk of illness.

The Client agrees to consult a medical professional with any health concerns.

8. Refund Policy

  • Deposits are non-refundable.
  • Once encapsulation has begun, payment is non-refundable.
  • If the placenta is deemed unsafe or unusable upon pickup, the deposit is retained but no further payment is required.

9. Contraindications

The Service Provider may decline services if the placenta shows signs of:

  • Improper storage
  • Contamination
  • Infection or pathological concerns
  • Prior release to pathology without proper containment

Safety is always the priority.

10. Client Confidentiality

All client information, communications, and personal details are kept strictly confidential and are never shared without written consent.

11. Liability Release

By purchasing services, the Client agrees that The Start of Life, its owner, and its representatives are not liable for:

  • Any adverse effects from placenta consumption or use
  • Medical conditions or complications arising before, during, or after birth
  • Improper storage or handling of the placenta before pickup
  • Any damages resulting from Client misuse of products

The Client accepts full responsibility for their health decisions.

12. Communication & Contact

The Client agrees to notify the Service Provider:

  • Upon going into labor
  • If birth plans change (induction, cesarean, transfer, etc.)
  • Immediately if releasing the placenta to hospital pathology so arrangements can be discussed

13. Acceptance of Terms

By booking services, paying a deposit, or submitting an intake form, the Client acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agreed to all Terms & Conditions listed above.
